Take only what is needed for the journey.
That’s what God told me when I moved from NY. This journey of letting go had begun in 2018, starting with something so minor yet concrete, my clothes. I went down to two weeks worth!
By the end of 2018, I had boxed all of my favorite things and was ready to move; all for God to tell me in 2020, “Leave all of it behind and just take what’s needed for the journey.”
God assured me that He would provide for my every need at the moment that I needed it and not a moment sooner. And I have seen Him do just that and I can say once again, God is my Provider.
Through this journey, the only way He could keep showing me who He is and His wonder in and around me was by me keeping this practice of letting go. So that’s what I kept doing. And every time I felt myself holding on to something tightly, I was reminded that if I didn’t let go, I would be forfeiting the bigger and better treasures the Lord had waiting for me. After I mourned the loss of letting go of my desires, expectations and will, I experienced a new song in my heart. And this refreshed joy rose up and I could hear and see the life around me awakening, dancing, singing, and flying. And it was all symphonious. Everything became clear because of this complete surrender. What freedom! I pray you live this freedom. I pray you let go and surrender.
Are you harboring your own stubborn will in your heart? Could this be what’s keeping you stuck? What if you confess and ask God to forgive you and remove every desire that is not from Him? What if you gave up your life’s desires and expectations and completely abandoned yourself to Him? What if you asked the Holy Spirit to show you the next step for His will to be done in your life and the courage to walk in it? What if God invites you today to, “Lose your life and you will find it.”?
“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.
But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
